Gen. Petraeus just used the word "cyberspace" several times in his congressional testimony today.
Makes me feel like it's 1997 all over again.
In the film "No Maps for These Territories" (2000), William Gibson, who gave us the word, said that he expected the prefix "cyber" to become as obsolete as the prefix "electro." It looks like it may take another few years for the technologically un-hip to catch up.
Whereas "cyberpunk" is a recognized genre (so we have an excuse!), using "cyberspace" to describe the Internet is just lame. At least until being online is a sensory-immersive experience like users have in "Ghost on the Shell."

Re: "Cyberspace"?!
Mon, September 10, 2007 - 11:20 AMI like it when people say things like "...it's a series of tubes..."
They should all just stick to that.

I also like how the Googler-In-Chief makes it plural.
That's pretty forward-thinking if you think about it.
