Emotiv is developing a brain–computer interface that they say will be available on the commercial market later this year. The EPOC neuroheadset uses EEG technology to read electrical patterns in the brain and then sends this information through wireless signals to a computer.

Mon, April 13, 2009 - 10:17 AMYeah, I remember reading a few years ago that Japanese researchers were able to get one-button joystick action out of a headset. This allowed people with full body disability (ie not even breath control) to communicate via a digital keyboard. I can well imagine the next step is a permanent skull implant for precision accuracy with an inductive connector (rather than the standard SF plug socket)

With a blindfold, earplugs, and the power of my imagination, I can get a better, cheaper virtual experience.
Actually, something bothers me about the Vuzix, in that it's designed to completely shut out the user from meatspace. It's an inherently antisocial design. And no, socializing with your online "friends" in avatar form doesn't count.
Guess I'm just an analog guy in a digital world. I'm fucking off now to spin some vinyl and watch movies on my VCR...
